Nyíregyhaza and Sostofurdo

Sóstó (salt lake) forest is between Nyíregyháza and Sóstógyógyfürdő, which is called the lung of the city by its residents with reason.

There are lots of people, young and old, families and groups, walkers, runners and other. There are forest playground, barbecues, rain houses, and paths built for the people. Although there are several places in our country called Sóstó, people from Nyíregyháza call this whole district Sóstó that is the lake, the forest, the zoo, and the bath together. The lake itself is a two sided salt lake, with an average of 1.5m depth. They say the water has its thermal power; it was used for healing since King Mátyás when it was called Igrice. It is officially thermal spa since 1927. One of the sides has been used as a free beach since 1930. In 1950 it was found that under the ground there is 50 Celsius hot thermal water, and the Parkfürdő (park bath) was built. Thousands of guests arrive every year to the bath. There are several hotels, camping and nightclubs around the lake.
